Week 1, 2,3: 1/17-2/3 The elements of art and principles of design. Students will learn how to incorporate all the fundamentals of design into their Portfolios. Each student will design their own work of art using the 7 elements of design. CLASSWORK: Syllabus, 7 elements Vocabulary Worksheet, Artist Statement QUIZ: 7 elements quiz 1/20 TEST: Final Draft Due 1/30 PROJECT: Sketchbook 1 (People or Animal) Due 1/31 Week 4,5,6: 2/6-2/24 Each student will learn six ways to create the illusion of space on a flat surface. Students will learn how to create the illusion of space using one point linear perspective and two point linear perspective. Their Final Draft will be to imagine up their own tree house using two point perspective. CLASSWORK: Space Vocabulary Worksheet, One/Two Point Perspective Boxes, Artist Statement QUIZ: Space Quiz 2/13 TEST: Final Draft Due 2/28 PROJECT: Sketchbook 2 (Food) Due 2/9 Start Sketchbook 3 (Objects) on 2/21 Due 3/2 Week 7,8,9,10 : 2/ 27-3/24 Students will learn the basics of color theory including specific names and types of colors (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Neutral). The student will learn how to mix specific colors on the color wheel using tempera paint. Final Draft students will use graphite paper to trace their image of their cropped animal. Art Show Thursday April 6th! SPRING BREAK! CLASSWORK: Art show Production QUIZ: TEST: PROJECT: Zentangles Due 4/5 Sketchbook 5 Due 4/4 Week 15,16,17 4/17-5/5 Each student will lean about a new painting pigment with watercolors. Students will learn an overview of watercolor application techniques including flat wash, gradations, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, lifting color, dry on wet, scumbling, glazing, using a sea sponge, applying salt, and scratching/indenting. - 7 Elements Project, Due Jan. 31st Each student must draw using color pencil, markers, or crayons to create one picture with all the elements: Line, Shape, Value, Texture, Color, Space. - Perspective, Due Feb. 24th The student will learn six ways to create the illusion of space on a flat surface. The student will learn how to create the illusion of space using two point linear perspective to create their personalized tree house. -Color Theory, Due March, 17th Students will learn how to use graphite paper to trace their cropped animal onto canvas. Students will learn how to highlight their image. Students will use color schemes to paint their work. -Zentangles, Due April 4th Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the elements and principles through the creation of tangles or patterns. - Watercolor Landscapes, Due May 5th Students will use their knowledge they learned on watercolor techniques to transfer that into a landscape. Students will use a photo reference to help them develop the understanding of reflections. Grading Scale-Tests/Portfolio: 35%
